【Major Conference】The 10th National Conference on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Held in Chengdu
From October 25-28, 2021, the 10th National Conference on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology was successfully held in Chengdu. With a long history, the conference is the most academically prestigious and influential event in the field of bioinformatics research in China. This meeting was organized by the Chinese Bioinformatics Society (in preparation), hosted by the Sichuan Provincial Bioinformatics Society, and co-organized by the Key Laboratory of Bioinformatics of the Ministry of Education at Tsinghua University, the Functional Genomics Informatics and Systems Biology Branch of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology, and Sichuan University. The theme of the conference was "Frontiers in Bioinformatics - Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Systems Biology, and Human Health." More than 1,000 experts and scholars from all over the country participated, including experts in the field of bioinformatics, researchers from related fields, and representatives from enterprises.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Shen Bairong, the director of the Sichuan Provincial Bioinformatics Society and West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Professor Sun Zhirong, the chairman of the conference and the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Bioinformatics in China from Tsinghua University, delivered a welcome speech. Professor Sun emphasized that Chinese bioinformatics should face the forefront of global scientific research, the main economic battlefield, significant national needs, and the health of the people, continuously advancing the breadth and depth of scientific and technological development.
Zhou Liping, a member of the Party Group and vice chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Association for Science and Technology, delivered a welcome speech, calling on scholars to keep abreast of global developments in bioinformatics and systems biology, closely connect with related practices, strengthen scientific innovation, promote the scientific progress of the biopharmaceutical industry, and make greater contributions to the sustainable development of the health and wellness cause.
Subsequently, Professor Liu Lunxu, the vice dean of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, delivered a welcome speech. Dean Liu first introduced West China Hospital and then pointed out the importance and scientific value of exploring human health in the context of the "big data era" and "artificial intelligence era" under the national policies and guidelines of "comprehensively building a healthy China" and "jointly building, sharing, and achieving universal health."
This conference included a total of 101 reports, with well-known experts in the field such as Academician Chen Runsheng, Academician Pan Yi, Academician Sun Maosong, and Professor Zhang Zemin being invited to present their reports, attracting more than 4,000 people to participate in academic exchanges both online and offline. In addition to the main forum, there were eight sub-forums including "Genomic Analysis," "Single-Cell Omics Analysis and Computational Proteomics," "Systems Biology and Synthetic Biology," "Translational Medical Informatics," "Transcriptomics and Epigenomics Analysis," "Microbiology and Other Omics and Informatics Applications," "Structural Bioinformatics and Drug Molecular Design," and "Biobig Data and Artificial Intelligence," as well as special topics such as the first Bioinformatics Whampoa School and a report and exchange meeting for local society leaders. The participants highly recognized the organization of this conference, which took the core of human health in the era of artificial intelligence and big data as the central theme, discussed the frontier dynamics and future trends of the discipline, and promoted the development of bioinformatics and systems biology in China.
