【Meeting Brief】The Thematic Forum of the Chinese Bioinformatics Society (Preparation Stage) Was Successfully Held in Chengdu!

   From December 8th to 10th, 2023, the Thematic Forum of the Chinese Bioinformatics Society (Preparation Stage) was successfully held in Chengdu! Over 150 well-known experts and scholars in the field of bioinformatics from all over the country participated in this forum.

   This thematic forum was hosted by the Organizing Committee of the Chinese Bioinformatics Society, and was undertaken by the Sichuan Bioinformatics Society, Chengdu Gaotou Bio-Pharmaceutical Park Management Co., Ltd., and the 5G Industry Alliance of Sichuan Province, with the cooperation of the Chongqing Bioinformatics Society, Guangxi Bioinformatics Society, and Shaanxi Bioinformatics Society. The aim was to strengthen academic exchanges in the field of bioinformatics, promote industry-academia-research cooperation, and advance the development of bioinformatics.

   The conference officially commenced on December 9th, 2023, with the opening ceremony presided over by Professor Shen Bairong from the West China Clinical Medical College of Sichuan University, and the keynote speech was delivered by the conference chairman, Professor Sun Zhirong.

   During the conference, the establishment ceremonies of the three special committees on network biology, translational informatics and data sharing security, and biomedical imaging informatics were also held concurrently, marking a further deepening of research and cooperation in related fields within the Chinese Bioinformatics Society (Preparation Stage). The conference shared new ideas on further improving academic exchanges, talent cultivation, and scientific research cooperation in China's bioinformatics field, exploring new paths and discussing industry dynamics and research ideas.

Next, Professor Long Manyuan from the University of Chicago delivered a presentation titled "Pursuing Interests: The Boundless World of Science and the Joy of Wisdom," sharing four philosophically rich and wise perspectives: First, as a scientific worker, the most important quality is to follow one's own interests; Second, science has no boundaries, and different fields are interconnected in a certain sense; Third, apart from daily life, there is another kind of life called "intellectual life," where a person pursuing wisdom can find joy; Fourth, one should be taught to know, and then learn to know on their own.

   In the morning reports on the 9th, Professor Shen Dinggang from the ShanghaiTech University, Professor Cui Qinghua from Peking University, Professor Xue Yu from the School of Life Science and Technology at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Lei Jinzhi from Tianjin Polytechnic University, and Professor He Shunmin from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave presentations respectively.

   In the afternoon of the same day, the three sub-venues of network biology, translational informatics and data sharing security, and biomedical imaging informatics were all packed with enthusiastic participants asking questions and creating a lively atmosphere.

   On the morning of December 10th, the conference continued with fascinating presentations. Professor Shen Bairong from the West China Clinical Medical College of Sichuan University, Professor Li Xueming from the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University, Professor Yu Guoqiang from Tsinghua University, Professor Liu Qi from Tongji University, Professor Liu Rui from South China University of Technology, Professor Wang Jiguang from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Sun Jiayu from West China Hospital of Sichuan University successively brought seven fascinating invited reports.

   The Thematic Forum of the Chinese Bioinformatics Society (Preparation Stage) concluded perfectly amidst the enthusiastic discussions of the experts. The participants actively spoke, listened attentively, and communicated in-depth, sharing their research findings and experiences, and jointly exploring the latest developments and cutting-edge technologies in the field of bioinformatics.

   This thematic forum showcased the frontier knowledge and emerging ideas in the field of bioinformatics, broadened academic horizons, stimulated intellectual collisions, and made a positive contribution to the continuous advancement of bioinformatics in China!
