With the rapid development and widespread application of bioinformatics, its role in the research and treatment of nephrology is becoming increasingly important. To better promote the integration and innovation of nephrology and bioinformatics, strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation, enhance the diagnosis, treatment, and research levels of nephrology, gather experts, researchers, and leaders in the medical field, and improve patients' treatment effects and quality of life, on March 31, 2024, the Sichuan Bioinformatics Society Nephrology Branch Establishment Ceremony and Nephrology Bioinformatics Training Course were grandly held in Chengdu.

The conference attracted enthusiastic participation from distinguished experts and scholars in various fields from both inside and outside the province. Notable attendees included Minister Xie Linshen from West China Fourth Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Fu Ping from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Wang Shaoqing from Four-One-Six Hospital of Nuclear Industry, Professor Xue Changjiang from Beijing Chaoyang Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, Professor Zeng Xiaoqian from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Chen Yu from Sichuan University, Professor Xie Xisheng from Nanchong Central Hospital, Professor Li Jiayuan from West China Fourth Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Zhang Heping from Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Professor Deng Fei from Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Professor Chen Ming from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital, Professor Zhang Ling from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Li Zhong from West China Fourth Hospital of Sichuan University, Deputy Secretary-General Zhou Jueqiao of Sichuan Bioinformatics Society, and more than 100 experts and scholars from related fields across the country.

On the morning of March 31, the establishment ceremony democratically elected the first members of the branch through a standardized election process. Comrade Xie Linshen from West China Fourth Hospital of Sichuan University was elected as the director; Chen Ming, Deng Fei, Li Zhong, Mao Nan, Zhang Heping, Xie Xisheng, Zhang Ling, and Zhou Ping were elected as deputy directors; and 53 comrades including Zeng Xiaoqian were elected as executive committee members. To support the better development of the society, the branch appointed Director Fu Ping from West China Hospital of Sichuan University as the honorary director of the Nephrology Branch.

Professor Xie Linshen introduced the preparation of the branch, stating that as one of the important diseases threatening human health, the innovation and development of diagnostic and treatment technology for kidney diseases have always been a focus of concern in the medical community. Bioinformatics, as an emerging interdisciplinary subject, provides new perspectives and tools for in-depth research on kidney diseases. He believes that the combination of the Nephrology Society and bioinformatics will open a new door for us, leading kidney disease research into a new era.

Professor Fu Ping, the honorary director, expressed that the establishment of the branch is not only a formal change but also a connotational enhancement. We should make full use of the technical means of bioinformatics to delve into the pathogenesis, diagnostic markers, and therapeutic targets of kidney diseases, providing strong support for precise treatment of kidney diseases. At the same time, we should also strengthen exchanges and cooperation with domestic and international peers, introduce advanced technology and management experience, and promote the international development of nephrology in our province.

Deputy Secretary-General Zhou Jueqiao of the Sichuan Bioinformatics Society pointed out that the society will strengthen the training and introduction of young talents, providing them with more opportunities for academic exchange and practice, and cultivate a group of compound talents who are proficient in both nephrology and bioinformatics. At the same time, we will strengthen the internal management and team building of the society, create an open, inclusive, and win-win cooperative working atmosphere, and jointly promote the common development of the Nephrology Society and bioinformatics.

The establishment ceremony concluded successfully. Subsequently, the Sichuan Bioinformatics Society Nephrology Bioinformatics Training Course was held. In the morning, Professor Xie Linshen from West China Fourth Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Zeng Xiaoqian from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Xue Changjiang from Beijing Chaoyang Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, and Professor Li Jiayuan from West China Fourth Hospital of Sichuan University delivered academic reports on topics such as "Bioinformatics Technology Aiding the Construction of Nephrology Discipline," "Big Data and Kidney Disease Management," "Experience and Reflection on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Mercury-Induced Nephropathy," and "Building a Registered Research Information System to Aid the Full Course Management of Chronic Kidney Disease."

In the afternoon, Professor Deng Fei from Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Professor Zhang Ling from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Ao Guangyu from Chengdu First People's Hospital, and Professor Li Zhong from West China Fourth Hospital of Sichuan University delivered academic reports on topics such as "Techniques for Establishing Autogenous Fistula Surgery," "A New Era of Iron-Based Phosphate-Lowering in China," "Exploring the Application of AI in the Medical Field from ChatGPT," and "New Advances in Anticoagulation Therapy for Hemodialysis."

The participants engaged in a heated discussion on the academic reports of the conference. This conference was a successful and fruitful event. We look forward to continuing to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation and exchange in future work, promoting the deep integration and development of kidney disease research and bioinformatics. We believe that the combination of kidney disease research and bioinformatics will achieve more fruitful results in the near future, making a greater contribution to the treatment and quality of life improvement of kidney disease patients.
